Hi all. I have a question about pally shields.

My auradin at the moment has a perfect Dragon shield in a ST base. I was thinking of getting a perfect Dragon shield in a Vortex base.

Can anyone explain to me the key differences between the two bases?

Ideally, I'd like to pick the one that will give me more life and defense.

it depends on your char. with vortex you will hit more defense. but you will need more str to wear it, and you will have to invest more dex to get mb. so if you have to invest hardpoints to get more dex for mb you will lose life with vortex. if you don't have to invest any more dex or str vortex will be the better choice.

Thanks for the advice! I wear a Berber coa. So my str req should be fine anyways. I may have to invest more into dex though since it requires more dex for mb. Any idea how much more? A little or a lot?

depends on your charlvl and how much +chance of blocking your holy shield gives you. lmk those 2 and i could tell you (could also give me your current dex with sacred targe).

formula for mb is block%*(dex-15)/(2*charlvl)

Vortex shields are overrated, what they are is rare. Sacred Targe or Sacred Rondache is a better choice, lower str requirement and higher block chance, meaning you don't spec as much dex, so you get more life. How much more dex depends on level and Holy Shield.
