My problem with further dimensions is that they always seem to rely on some example of how a 2d being would see and the application of that to how 4d beings would interact in our 3d world as some sort of teleporting shape shifter.

I understand the analogy but it is flawed and vague and merely could suggest the behavior of a 4th spatial dimension if it does exist. Is the evidence for the further dimensions compelling, or just a currently vague physical theory that needs work?

I always found it fun to discuss in the department but highly faith based.

I dont believe in time as a dimension. Additional spatial dimensions... maybe.

It's not entirely ridiculous. The word dimension is used vaguely and in general the ideas of string theories, further dimensions, aND the such are used weakly as calculational tools or referred to by analogy. It's right to think about it, but this field is highly theoretical right now.
