the texture on it is interesting, but here's some changes i'd work towards

http://i.imgur.com/swOS1EX.png

i'd bring back the original render ontop of it to restore some of the color, as having her skin red along with everything is a bit excessive
though the red and purple can be pretty, maybe a slight change in color would work too (though it also looks nice as is)
but the one thing i can't get past is the exploded car in the bottom right corner. i tried to imagine what else it could be, but it always ends up looking like a burnt car.
i don't really care for the heavy border or the K in the corner
apart from that, it looks like it has potential ^_^

Thank you for your constructive criticism. working on it now

after seeing the poor quality in the edits (especially the render plamenet, and then the poor smudge quality to remove the car), i decided to dig into it, and found the that this is a wallpaper easily found on google made by someone else, with a gradient overlay, border and text (both of which i asked to be removed too); i'm not interested.
if you created the image, you would have easily been able to bring forward the original render in its original place, rather than end up with the render moved and enlarged (or at the very least, match the render up with the image like i did), and likely would have been able to edit the car out or changed the background entirely with ease.

whoever made the wallpaper probably didn't know or care, but this anime takes place in a medieval fantasy world, and thus, cars do not exist there to even have a car to be left in ruin.
the c4d they used behind her created a good texture when shrunk to a sig-appropriate size, and edited with a gradient filter, but a different landscape would have better suited it imo. in full scale, i don't particularly care for how the c4d looks.

i would link the original wallpaper, but with chrome you can simply right click > search google for this image > change search text to Megumin, and find the wallpaper.

don't bother posting again, i won't purchase or even give the time to respond to anything else from you.
if nothing else, you might have inspired me to create some sigs for myself, and for that i'll thank you.

My friend, I did not just add

gradient overlay, border and text

I'm sorry if it's not up to par.

well i wasn't gonna post this in regards to your attempt, but here it is, since you decided to post and pm in regards to my reaction to it.

scale down
flip horizontal
paint/throw image over render, bottom portion
create border
add K
apply gradient
post result
get feedback
throw on render, which doesn't even match original image
apply filters to render (without noticing the coat being sliced in the render, thus feathered in the original image)
smudge the background to remove the car, while not maintaining the quality of the image

no you didn't just apply a border, text and gradient overlay, but those are the most notable things you did to the image.
having just over a dozen layers honestly isn't even all that much. you could get that many through applying filters, gradients, etc.

I'm not trying to be rude here, but aren't like 99% of the attempts posted on your thread a background with a megumin pic? I don't understand why you target mine as being "unfit" when (like everyone else.) got their pics from google and took their time to edit the certain effects they think would fit. This took me time and flaming it as if I just got it off google and pasted it into your thread is an insult. I don't mind if you don't req. sigs from me again but all I'm saying is that I personally think that I put just as much effort into the sig I offered you, while even taking the time to edit the way you wanted it. (Right after your creative criticism.)

Sorry if I insulted you in anyway, but thats just what I believe.

if you see someone else's work with an already existing wallpaper with simple touch ups, feel free to call them out on it and i will respond to them just the same.
i don't purchase every attempt posted in my threads, nor do i even comment for the majority of them, so if you want to compare your work to the work of the majority rather than striving to be better than, you'll find out that i'm not interested.
i responded to your work because i liked it at first, did minor editing myself for suggestions, and after seeing the poor quality in your edits towards my suggestions, i decided to look for an image that already existed that matched your post, and this wallpaper matches it.
so you're absolutely correct, it's not up to par.

pm'd in regards to text.

i'm not the best at rendering stock, but here's a sample (if someone wanted an image rendered)
original: http://imgur.com/ofs8ADN cut: http://imgur.com/4yHDOnW

if you notice a corner missing on a render, try your best to recreate it, cover it or feather it if it's obvious. if you notice in my render above, i finished off the end of the cloak so that it wasn't cut flat, in case someone wanted to include the whole cloak. (i know, the angle is a bit off)
sometimes you can get away with it without really noticing, such as Avelix's attempt - the corner of the hat on the left side, and towards the center/bottom of the cloak on the left side are cut off a bit, but it's hardly noticeable at signature size, so it can get by.
whereas in d2thealer's edit, you can clearly see that the cloak on the render is cut on the end, hence why the original image feathered the end of the cloak to make it less obvious.

i noticed i had 2 of the same render in my imgur album, so i decided to replace it with the one i cut. http://imgur.com/a/xcRW3

i'll probably buy 1-2 more sigs from this thread before i close this. my other thread is open as long as i have fg.

i'd really like to see what someone could do with http://imgur.com/dX3KR5P
perhaps a dark smudge with highlights
inspiration / examples of what i like: http://imgur.com/UrABZkg / http://imgur.com/de0DA2A / http://imgur.com/1JWZiHn / http://imgur.com/MQJDcvQ / http://imgur.com/uiivblp

another one i'd like to see would be http://imgur.com/IT2PiXZ, though ill admit, it will probably be more difficult than other render choices. it's got a nice halloween look to it (possible design theme for it?).

other render choices are still welcome to attempts. looking forward to seeing something ^_^

i did a rough smudge in an attempt to fill in the blanks, to make it a bit easier for anyone who wanted to try this one
