Stretched will make things appear bigger on your screen.
Also try using aug/ssg553, awp, and scout.

You should be fine

i play on 4:3 stretched 1280x960. its hard for me to spot people at higher res's.

buy a 27'' monitor, that's the highest diagonal that's ok for cs. Tried bigger but it's hard to stay focused. 24'' and 27'' seems to work great for me.

Higher resolution isnt always the best, I personally use native but some prefer stretched resolutions black bars or not, I suggest 1280 x960 it will feel weird but very smooth and you will be able to see better. Also suggest brightness.
