my family has the cheap model of this car, not sure if the fancy version has a different engine bay.
personally I only have experience working on my '84 which doesn't really have an ecu since it's emissions deleted and carbed.

So the dealership gave her a grand total of $450, including discounts for "1.5 labor" and power steering/brake flush and fuel cap change (hope this isn't what I think it is).
Basically I'm assuming there's a major scam going on because even if I'm too lazy to do my own maintenance, these things go for about $80 tops at a stingy mechanic.

Here's my big question, is there anything special about the honda cr-v that makes the power steering/brake flush so unique? Looking up on the honda cr-v enthusiast forum and they list a bunch of different fluids just for a simple power steering flush, including something called "dual pump fluid." Any insight would be great and given some thanks.

Cheers.

scammed you for alot of money
the flush should be an hour of labor plus fluid.

would have scammed, if not for me.
That's what I figured though.
Glad I yelled at her to just come straight home then.

Any idea what this dual pump fluid is? Sounds like headlight fluid to me.

pop the cap to the ps reservoir nd look at the color
is it red ? or a dark red?

duel pump fluid sounds shifty- i googled it and nothing came up, oem p/s fluid for an 08 crv is not unique, its not really common either.
just store brand power steering fluid should be good enough for you.

if it is dirty, you can drain and refil with new fluid. plenty of diy videos

yup I was thinking just valvoline that autozone recommends and the classic black bottle of brake fluid, think its called wearever or whatever.
it was darker than oil, I'm assuming it hasn't been changed since the car was first bought in 2008. I may be wrong. 3 years after flushing the p/s fluid in my '84 and it's still a crisp red/yellow.

Do all CR-Vs come with what they consider all-wheel drive? While I agree with with all of the other comments, it sounds like it was just a nice payday for the dealers on some work not needed; my other thought is if (somehow) what they did is related to the all-wheel drive system, which most likely its not.

Attempting to think of any positive options, which really sounds like a $450 rip off from the dealers.

Don't ever take your car to the dealers for work, unless its under warranty. Never. Ever. Never ever ever never.

the awd and power steering are not related.

the cvr brand from honda is almost strictly all wheel drive

the work is needed, but the price is very wrong.

Should have been more specific. Didn't think the power steering was but wondered if (somehow) the electronic brakes also was related to the traction control/awd system. As in, if somehow the brake system was more complex, needing fluid changed or whatever....

(was trying to put a positive spin on it...) lol yea, the effin' dealership dicked ya.
