will actually increase the overall pot with more bids on teams that would otherwise go cheap.

If that makes sense, then why not take that logic to the extreme. Instead of a "super bowl auction" do a "draft order auction".

The team with the #32 pick earns 14% of the pot. All other teams pay out as follows:
31: 7%
29-30: 6%
25-28: 5%
21-24: 4%
10-20: 2%
1-9: 1%

Under this system, every person has an incentive to bid on every team based on how good they think they will be. It maximizes the bid amount for every team.

Boooooy

Where's that pic of the door you used to be so fond of in PaRD
I do not like this idea bard

Just throwing out ideas, since some were requested. TBH we had plenty of action in last season's bidding, and I think the calendar was an excellent addition.

Cuts up the pot too finely. There should be a sizable reward for the #1.

The more teams you add to the payout, the more finely the pot gets cut up.

Pay out 100 fg or so to every team that makes the playoffs, just to incentivize purchasing some of the boarderline teams that don't have a real Super Bowl run, but have a shot at 8-8 or so.

You seem to be on board with the idea of adding more teams to the payout.

it spaces out rewards and will actually increase the overall pot with more bids on teams that would otherwise go cheap.

If people agree that incentivizing bids is more important than rewarding Super Bowl teams, then it's just a question of how far it should be taken. I posted an example of taking it to the extreme just to illustrate the point.

How many non-Super Bowl teams have to get a payout before the name of the game needs to be changed from 'Super Bowl Auction"?

I like this idea. Maybe 250-500 though.

Someone do the math from last year, what's the average fg price for a team?

I don't know the actual pot but I would guess it was in the 70k range which put each team at an average of 2k.

Obviously those are just rough guesses since I don't know actual numbers

So if it's closer to that again 1642.69 per average, total pot would be 52,566.08, if we take out, say 500 fg for each team that made playoffs (as incentive to but borderline teams), we can do a win system in the playoffs too.

It would be 12 teams, so 6k from the pot, leaving 46k to the SB winner. Then use the 6k as incentives for playoffs.

200 fg if your team loses first round - 5200 left
600 fg if your team loses second round - 2800 left
1400 fg if your team loses afc/nfc championship - 0 left

Then it's wta for the Superbowl, loser would get nothing unless we move another small portion (2500 fg maybe) for the sb loser.

Just an option if we wanna divvy the pot for incentives
