Yeah right boi. He's carrying the lions to their first Super Bowl win this year.

There were a few of you in fnr that knew a lot about gardens and I forgot who they were. I'm about to start my raised bed garden and need some guidance on how to start.

Go back in time 3 months

But your number 1 goal is good soil. Dont buy black dirt unless you're on a budget. I would buy a few bags of solid raised bed soil. It's probably 4x the price of black dirt but if you're serious it's worth the price. Depending on where you live it's pretty late in the season to grow things like tomatoes and peppers. Squashes will probably do well. Corn is out of the question anywhere. It's supposed to be waist high by now. In ~month you can start your fall veggies like lettuce and shit. But if you plant that now it's most likely going to fry in the heat

Yeah, I figured the timing was bad, but I was road tripping out west all summer and ended my trip a little early and really wanted to try out gardening.

I live in Buffalo, New York. Pretty humid right now and around high 70's, low 80's.

I'm down to grow anything if I'm being honest. I love most vegetables so any suggestions of what I can grow now with success would be great. Should I start from seeds?

Your best bet is plant starts. I don't know where you can find them out there this time of year. Starting some lettuce and spinach and shit from seeds for fall harvest would be a good idea. At that temp I don't see them getting too hot.

Depending on what you want you may want to look into starting indoors around February for tomatoes and earlier for peppers. It makes gardening almost free. Keep seeds, keep any planters you get and keep it cheap.

What are plant starts? I googled it and didn't really get a clear definition. I'm assuming it's already a plant.

I was thinking of a 48 x 48 raised bed to start. Not sure how much room that is for growing. I'd be down for squash, spinach, lettuce. Probably too late for potatoes right?

Would it be better to just start growing things inside now?

Definitely serious. I've always wanted to get into it, but I've never had the space to do it and now I have a backyard at my new apartment.
