They say to drop weight a lot when you start the program so your body can adjust to the volume. But I'm impatient and don't want to start all over, so if I don't drop weight that much when I start will I die?

IIRC they say some dumbshit like 'start with the bar'

That's not necessary, you could perhaps start with 70% of what you can 5x5 right now. (Not ur best ever, ur current 5x5)

Edit: yes u will die in 3-4 weeks if u use ur current best 5x5

I ran that program wrong, and plateaued pretty fucking fast.

The problem with programs like Starting Strength and Strong Lifts is the method is pure linear progression. And mathematically, by the end of the year they expect you to add an absurd amount of weight to your lifts.

I'd try the Wendler 5/3/1 or the Texas Method. The Texas Method is a great way to build the confidence to start the 5/3/1.

I don't think I'm going to follow their progression, but just do the routine and up the weight when I can.

Texas Method is much better than 531

Texas method has 3 x frequency and decent volume, 531 has 1 x with a poor amount of volume

Depends on if you want to pull singles or not..

Remember the 5/3/1 is 5+, 3+ and 1+

I don't feel like every set needs to be 80%+ though.

Either way, both programs are fucking boss

If it's anything like madcows where you don't hit your "5rm" until the 4th week, no. Do the program as prescribed.

Idk why everyone feels like they're more knowledgeable than the author.
