Each 100 units of part manufactured a certain process yields 85 conforming units.
5 must be scrapped and 10 much be reworked.
Each scrapped unit is $50 loss and each reworked unit requires an extra half an hour of processing time.

The resource time of producing the original 100 units is 20 hours

The labor hourly rate is $20/hour

Fill in the blank

Good product produced per labor hour = BLANK units per hour
Answer to a single decimal place.

Hopefully someone can get to this soon to verify what I think for this test question before my test time is up in about an hour.

Thanks!

The cost loss and hourly wage are irrelevant to the question unless there are more parts to it.

Out of 20 hours of labor, you get 85 good pieces and 10 that need to be reworked. The 10 reworked pieces take an additional 5 hours to make viable per the additional 30 mins per piece mentioned about reworking.

Therefore, 95 viable parts are made in 25 hrs of labor.

95/25 = 3.8 viable parts per labor hour

You assume that the success rate of the reworked units are 100% rather than the original 85%

85% of 10 isn't a whole part.

Beyond that, it is heavily implied by the question that the 10 parts per hundred being set aside which are reworkable will be viable as long as the time is spent on reworking them. That's why the other 5 are scrapped, because either they cannot be reworked or they would require an inordinate amount of time to be reworked.

If the success rate were different than 100% or the same as the initial materials for processing, it would have stated it more explicitly in the question.
