Last night I was playing overwatch and diablo 3 pretty smoothly, no updates occurred from what I know. Without restarting the computer I played this morning and have been having this issue. The game would sometimes freeze for about half a second, where the audio from that second would loop and make this sputtering sound. I'm assuming the source is either video card or soundcard needs an update, or the recent update is not compatible with something. I am also wondering if it could be the source of a latent virus that is using up the memory or causing an issue somewhere else, I use trendmicro as an anti-virus.

If anyone can help me on next procedures let me know.

update:
just did a microsoft update and now the computer freezes/crashes on desktop.
starting to replicate safe mode to figure out the source.

e: cpu usage bounces between 50% and 80% on start up, is that normal? Majority of the time it is on 80%.
I disable most of my programs from opening themself on start up.

TYo check for viruses, run the free ESET online scanner... https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

Also, run a scan with the Malwarebytes free trial... https://www.malwarebytes.com/trial/

As for sound and video...just follow the AMD directions, below...

DDU Instructions - Nvidia/AMD
1. Get this program, here: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=144 ...from the "Official Download Here" link, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Nvidia: http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...or AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose: Nvidia or AMD, then choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia or AMD driver ( that you saved to your desktop in step #2) ...to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.

No that is not normal. Use process hacker to figure out the cause.

hey guys, just to update. genius friend recommends system restoring and it seemed to have worked. I forgot about that feature.
my work requires me to have "open virtualization" to use a series of programs which seems similar to a cloud? Not sure as it's not my field, any thoughts on what open virtualization might be?

e: I had to configure my computer to have "open virtualization" about 2 month ago.

Anything overclocked?

Sounds like a GPU issue
