Your triggers are things that remind you and make you relive past traumas. They are the things that make addicts want to use. They are the things that a bipolar or schizophrenic person can keep an eye out for to identify they are becoming psychotic or entering mania before it's way too late and they're already there. They are the things that put someone with borderline personality in a reactive "splitting" state.

Identifying your triggers is very important to mental health and substance abuse recovery. A good portion of psychotherapy especially CBT and DBT is identifying and finding new ways to deal with these things.

The Tumblr and 4Chan crowd have ruined the word on the internet for most people but in reality it still has its originally meaning. What happens on the internet with the Tumblr and 4chaners is insignificant. These memes don't mean anything and only entertain and persuade the simplest of minds.
