Personally, I'd get a Ryzen. Intel does perform better per core but the differences are so small that I'd rather have the extra threads offered by their lineup than the 5-10% performance.
Otherwise you can't really go wrong with your choice as they are both highly competitive and the differences in gaming (currently) are negligible.

You may also consider Ryzen for the future if we ever get to a time when vulkan and dx12 do their actual job (allow for unlimited core usage).
I think that would make more sense if you don't want to upgrade for 5 years.

At the moment I can't recommend Ryzen, as the company AMD has been known to release craptastic cpu's in the past, their relatively small compared to intel r&d brings me to the conclusion that there's no way ryzen can compete with intel. It would be like a mouse outlifting atlas. The benchmarks don't lie, either.

As a result, I have to recommend the Seventh Generation Intel® Core™ i5 for optimal ipc and pcb component quality that is rated for gaming use.

Buy the 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5: The World's Best Processor For Gaming. I highly recommend the i5-7600k because of high overclocking potential and superior IPC with Intel® Turbo Boost Max 3.0 Technology. Not only do Intel 7th generation Core™ processors sport a 10 year warranty vs Ryzen's 3 year warranty, they also feature optimized features and instructions such as a 4k hardware decoding and Support for Intel Optane Memory storage caching as well as precision fab processing for tighter binning and higher clock speeds across the board.

Here's a quote from a popular League of Legends player regarding the new 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5:

Having used Intel processors for all these years, watching it evolve is truly amazing. Kaby Lake takes what is already the best and makes it even better. The new chips make gameplay feel great and give me total control of each frame. This is unlike anything that I have experienced before.” - Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng
