How do people in Germany feel about him in general?
well obviously i can't speak for every german, but my impression is that he's generally highly regarded as an outstanding politician and that his legacy won't be tarnished too significantly by the scandal (he refused to identify anonymous donors regarding illegal party financing).
that doesn't mean i'm trying to make it sound like it wasn't a big deal. it certainly was, and although some people even praised him for his "loyalty", he was clearly wrong there - and it effectively ended his political career. considering he wasn't chancellor anymore at that time, however, it really pales in comparison to his outstanding accomplishments. so very generally speaking i would say he's still regarded mainly positively...
