He is one of my favorite players. But he is only signed through this season, becoming a UFA in the offseason, possible we could bring him back if there is mutual interest.

A really bad haul for JD.

only one top 30 prospect in the Dbacks org was traded.

not really "bad" when you consider everything. Dave Cameron did a good job on this article: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-lessons-of-the-j-d-martinez-trade/ and he doesn't even mention lorenzo cain (assuming the royals keep falling out again and sell).

Actually it was #4 and #15 and one other.

But positionally it is a bad haul. We dont need shortstops. I wouldve liked to see a starting pitcher prospect and/or a reliever/closer prospect. But JD is set to become a UFA at seasons end, so im sure the dbacks did not want to part with a top pitching prospect for him. Im just hoping we bring him back in the offseason because JD is one of my favorite currrnt players...

Depends on which rankings you're looking at I guess, and the Dbacks system is so thin that their top 10 prospects might not even be top 20 in other systems.

Carlos Beltran got the yankees a bigger haul for him than what the Tigers got for a top 5 hitter in baseball the last 3 seasons.

True, the article i read said #4, #15, and another guy, but yeah i agree, dbacks farm system is really thin. But it was just the best available deal, i read the article posted and i agree that it probably was just the best deal because teams with better players to offer probably dont want a rental player on an expiring contract with no guarantee that he will sign with them. Especially since i have read that JD has expressed intrest in returning to the tigers next season. Of course that was before the trade, so i guess we will just have to wait and see.

It just sucks seeing the Tigers core never win it.

Looks like Justin Verlander to the Astros maybe?

That would be a blessing imo - he's owed 2yr/58$ over the next 2.

I agree, yeah thats a possibility. although i have my doubts. Dont think the organization would want to part with Verlander, it's rare in baseball, but i feel he could be a lifer with the Tigers.

The Astros are also talking to Sonny Gray.

Also Verlander has full no-trade rights, so he would have to approve any trade. I have a hard time seeing him accepting a trade outside of the Yankees/Mets, because Kate Upton (his fiancee, or wife now, idk) lives part-time in New York. Every possible trade that has been rumored involving Verlander outside of the Yankees is significantly farther away from New York than Michigan is. And the Mets are definitely not in the mix at that lol!

If they were going to trade Verlander they should have done it last year. They won't get shit for him with that contract and his era is a run and a half higher this year. They would have to eat a ton of money to get anything decent back.
