Skylake PCB was thinner than previous cpu's. It was cracking / snapping / etc in a vice.

i put the IHS in the vice not the pcb

if you aren't a neanderthal it should go fine
it doesn't take a lot of force to break the glue and you're hitting it with a rubber mallet directly on the side... nowhere for it to bend hitting it on that surface.. pretty sure i could pull this off even if you replaced the pcb with laminated cardboard.

here's a crappy paint illustration to show what im talking about and why that's not as much of an issue



The forces that cause bends in sockets is very different from the forces involved in de-lidding.

Better yet, imagine an arrow meant to be fired from a 200 lbs draw weight bow, it can withstand that force easily, but now place it down on top of 2 fairly far apart concrete blocks and have a 200 lbs man stand on it.
