Saw a watch topic in d2jsp for the first time and realised that there have been countless topics about headphones and things that i am interested in, but never watches.

Watches are a fun thing to collect, mod, discuss, buy and sell despite their redundancy in recent years due to phones.

I only got into watches after coming to London, so perhaps interest is far lesser in other places..

Anyone have favourite designs? perhaps an heirloom watch they were given?

I admittedly dont often wear a watch, but when i do it's an 18kt gold Perregaux GBM7000.

I've owned quite a few nice watches, but if i buy i new watch i usually sell the old, and ive never had a watch with strong sentimental value.

I've never modded a watch but what people do to watches especially rolex and breitlings can be quite extreme. there's a lot of diamond encrusting done, more subtle is "blued" hands on watches or alternate dials.

If i ever get a mono-tone watch i would consider gold plating to make it 2-tone as a mod, but again, ive never done it.

below is a breitling crosswind i saw on the bay

yes, mods are usually to make the watch more gaudy indeed. bluing or using a rare archaic dial is more tasteful, or minor mods like exchanging a stainless crown for a gold crown or upgrading a bad crystal for a sapphire one i can also appreciate.

edit:

googled up a picture of my watch:
