Turns out there is a fault/short INSIDE of the alternator, which is why the car will charge sometimes, but will not charge others, and is causing the power loss under strain.

just an fyi, if any solenoids are "breaking off" it's a clear indicator of your engine mounts.
See if that is what may have lead to the alternator failing. Every symptom has a causation.

also "defective" statistics are just that, statistics, probability that you may not be part of. If you try to use a different brand alternator and problem returns, there's something else causing the problem.
Better to nip it in the bud then long-term trial and error.
