you can't even fathom the number of possible things that could be causing it or how hard it is for us to diagnose the issue with this amount of information. Could be bad ram, file association registry problems, hard drive failing, kernel level shenanigans, incorrect checksum, race condition, bad cpu, bad motherboard...
I am going to
assume it's a hardware issue going by the fact that it started off happening occasionally then became more frequent as time goes on, as hardware failures usually are in my experience, as opposed to just breaking all at once.
