This forum is the closest I could find to get some help figuring out a good pair of travel headphones.
I'm going to be traveling a lot more for work and my standard earbuds that came with my phone make me have to turn the volume up a lot to the point of distortion
I've been trying to read reviews but it's hard to pull the trigger without trying them on, and there are no demos in any stores besides beats and bose really.

I tried the Bose QC 35 around December, but either had a deffective pair, or my ears were more sensitive to the ANC because even when there was a medium amount of noise like at work I could hear the slight high pitched whine and feel the pressure on my ears

Some others I've been looking at are:

Sony MDR H.Ear 100 On Wireless
Sennheiser in general
Sony MDR 1000x
Plantronics backbeat pro 2
PSB M4U,
Audio-Technica ATH-M40x
Sennheiser HD 380 PRO
Ghostek SoDrop 2 series aptx

Anyone try any of those or have others I should take a look at?


Budget around 200-400. If I can get a decent pair that isn't much different for less then thats fine, or if there is a BIG difference between 400 to 500, then I can go up a bit






Should add, I am by no means an audiophile but do appreciate decent sound. The most important part is the travel ability and will it still sound good with noise around me without having to blast the volume.

If you are interested in the qc35's check out the sennheiser momentums --> nose cancelling and bt configurations are available
(I have them personally and they literally inc my productivity lol)

I know the urbanite is their "on the move" headphone or was last I checked

Sony MDR 1000x

I did actually try those in a best buy that had them. The ANC didn't hurt my ears like the bose.

As you have a good budget then Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 would be best for traveling.

although I do hear that the sony's are the best contender to unseat the momentums, but they weren't around when I purchased my
Cans so nvr got a chance to listen to them.

Right now I'm leaning toward the Sony MDR 1000x, the momentums, and the sennheiser HD 4.50

Any idea between those 3x? And if I get the momentums, worth the price for the wireless plus ANC? How is the wired momentum 2.0 NC? Enough for a plane?

Most purists say fuck bt but if you're using it for work/convenience I'd recommend it...I have the 2.0s that are wireless and anc and I fuken love em

Momentum 2.0 should have most neutral sound out of those. Wireless is up to you. Noice cancelling imo is not necessary for closed cans.

It helps for work, imo (anc)

I nvr tried the bose, but I've read their anc is better at the expense of SQ than the momentums...the momentums won't drown out every sound but their goal is a balance bt SQ and ANC vs bose
