why are you gettign a 1600

Because the I5 is utter trash ( 4 cores no additional threads ) and the I7 isn't worth the premium

Suppose I could flip to a 1600x or 1700

People consistently point to I5 benchmarks and say it's better at gaming than Ryzen while ignoring 3 key points

1. The Benchmarks are done on clean installs without other programs gamers use installed or running... discord, browser tabs, music , skype, streaming services....all these things take Processor power, and it gimps the I5 which only has 4 cores and 4 threads total

2. No games are optimized for Ryzen code right now, once they are the 5-6% advantage that the I5 enjoys vanishes

3. Everything is going to be using more cores in the future, buying a brand new 4 core processor is a terrible idea

Don't know about point 3. Would love to see a game take advantage of 8 cores.

I'd even be willing to jump on a 1070 for the right price , found one for 450 ....but seems like too much of a premium for limited performance

use PSHOPSAVE15 and you get another $20 off.

$275 CAD for 580 8gb is pretty good
