I found a 580 at 290 bucks 8 gb, but that feels too weak of a card for a brand new build

Not really. You can get FE at 930$ CA normal price.
I would rather pay the extra for a better cooler

Nah link is refering to a better cooler. But if you are fine with the blower style sure it's a great sale.
That would not be in my PC tho.
