opened around 20 chests so far, got a soul taker which sold for 16ex if i remember correctly, the rest worthless crap

i wont buy any more keys, but surely open the chest myself if i loot another one

Its a lottery, just like exalts. Thats all there is to it and i dont think theres anything wrong with that.

I would be fine if i would get something other than tarryns shiver staves once in a while.

you are much more likely to score a good exalt mod than get a decent reliquary drop
