Looks like Macron and Le Pen are going to be the candidates for the second round:
With 85% of the votes counted so far it's pretty much certain it's going to be these two... the only question is who will finish the first round in the lead, since that 1% difference could dissipate when the remaining 15% of the votes are counted.
Thoughts?
I figured Le Pen would win this with by a around a 3% margin (and then clearly lose the second round). Perhaps the rise of Mélenchon, who is pretty euroskeptic, has hurt her a bit.
I don't really care if the left, right or whatever wins in a country that's not mine, but looking into the views each candidate had regarding the EU, I'm glad that Macron, the candidate that is most in favour of greater european integration, has made it to the second round and now has a huge chance of becoming president.
edit: Hamon and Fillon have both said they'll vote for Macron to stand against Le Pen, and Mélenchon has said he will consult the voters of his party before making a decision.
