Hi guys,

I currently have a dell xps 8700 I bought a couple years ago. Current specs are as follows

i7-4790k intel CPU
16gb RAM
250gb Samsung Evo 840 ssd
Nvidia GTX 1060 (just bought)
evga 750 g2 gold PSU (just bought)

It was pretty difficult to fit the gpu and psu into the xps case so I'm probably going to end up just buying a new case and building it with what parts I can reuse.

Suggestions on a good case/mobo/ram? I'm hoping to reuse the CPU if I can. Budget would be ~600 USD.

If you plan on keeping the same CPU, you can keep the same ram.
Not sure on Mobo though. Idk if Dell uses a custom board with who knows what for mounting holes lol.

Case is personal preference. Now is the time to decide you want want a small case, mid size or large case. That would help with other options.

Use pcpartpicker.com to find a case u like. Offhand, this isn't a bad go-to case/mobo combo for the mid size range.

Since u gave $600 though, you can definitely upgrade cpu/Mobo/ram/case to something like...

Could sell ur 4790k for $200ish maybe? Not sure. I usually sell full builds.

just for the record if he is solely gaming, going from a i7 4790k to a R5 1600x will be a downgrade  (especially if his is clocked high)

I would think it would be same but he'd get more cores which some games make use of albeit like 2 games

Thanks everyone for your input!

So just to confirm, I would be able to reuse the CPU + RAM on a different motherboard?
