So i know that Rh means rhesus. But what does A, B, or AB mean? Like what are the specific scientific names for those abbreviations? I just need to know the antigen name.
Thanks!
Rh is rhesus factor which is indicated by a - / + at the end of a blood type. IT's important because Rh- pregnancies have the risk of autoantibodies forming and attacking the fetus which is a medical emergency.
A means A antigen in the RBC with anti-B antibodies in plasma.
B means B antigen in the RBC with anti-A antibodies in plasma.
AB has NO antibodies in plasma, with A + B antigens.
O has anti-A+anti-B in plasma with no antigens in plasma.
