while their "sovereignty" claim is absolutely ridiculous, i still would like to know that the fuck an american warship is doing there
We have 3
groups of war ships there.
1. China says Thailand is a wayward colony, Thailand disagrees.
2. China says the entire South China Sea belongs to China...ALL the surrounding countries disagree.
3. And ofc, North Korea.
4. Most important reason of all, is that IF the US HAD to remain in the Western Hemisphere only, then our ONLY response to allies asking for help would be nuclear, due to the great ...distance. But with the Navy we can have parts of our "manual" army, where it's needed, so we have other options besides nuclear. Our Air Force is good, but we still can barely handle crossing the the Pacific on a single tank of gas. In order to be useful to our allies, we have to have mobile airports, aka, the Navy. ICBM's can still cross the Pacific faster than our Air Force can.
It's just logistics. Until "Mr. Fusion" ... (Back to the Future) becomes an everyday thing, we have to remain mobile.
I'm sure the American people would be FAR happier if the taxpayers didn't HAVE to pay to support....19 aircraft carriers. But unless the distances get a lot smaller, or the non nuclear options, get a lot faster...we still need the Navy's fast response (due to them being mobile) abilities. Maybe Germany should really invent a "Tome of Town Portal" so the US could just retire the insanely expensive Navy.
