I think it's a good idea, just can't articulate why or how, but hey, it's something right?

You mean like when China used it's veto power to stop the sanctioning countries from a total oil embargo in NK?

it's a pretty cheap PR win. Bush took them off (Bush bad), Obama was scared to put them back on (Obama bad), Trump isn't afraid of anything.

The sad part in my head would be the people that would cheer if we blew that place off the map, all because well under 1% of the population controls the rest and won't give up control. I even saw the idea that "they'd choose death if we offered it to them instead of the camps". I think they should run that past some cancer survivors or holocaust survivors. Living usually beats dying.

Pretty dark but... Not always. The thing with cancer and holocaust survivors is that they no longer have the cancer or are in the concentration camps.
It's entirely subjective of course and they have no right to make that decision for hundreds of thousands of Koreans. That cannot be the reasoning any decision is based on. It's just a way to make the people proposing the killing of vulnerable innocents feel better about it.

Implications are international sanctions against countries having trade, including black markets, with NK.

U.S. sanctions 13 Chinese and North Korean organizations

Anthony Ruggiero, a North Korea expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said China doesn’t strictly enforce financial rules in the Dandong area. As a result, Dandong draws companies interested in making a profit by selling to North Korea, he said.

The new sanctions also hit several North Korean companies that send workers to countries such as Russia, Poland, Cambodia and China. United States authorities said they are seeking to cut off the money North Korea makes from the export of labor.

Along with targeting sources of weapons technology, the new sanctions marked the first time the United States sought to directly attack North Korea’s everyday consumer trade, said Peter Harrell, a sanctions expert at the Center for a New American Security.

“What you are seeing here is we are sanctioning companies involved in ordinary trade,” Harrell said. “That’s the logical next step of the pressure campaign.”

North Korea defector regains consciousness, video shows getaway under fire

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-southkorea-defection/north-korea-defector-regains-consciousness-video-shows-getaway-under-fire-idUSKBN1DM07E

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean border guards were only steps behind a fellow North Korean soldier when they opened fire and one briefly crossed the border pursuing the wounded defector as he dashed to the South Korean side, a video released on Wednesday by the U.N. Command (UNC) in Seoul showed.

The defector was critically wounded, having been hit at least four times in the hail of bullets as he made his desperate escape on Nov.13. He was flown by a U.S. military helicopter to a hospital in Suwon, south of Seoul.

Doctors announced on Wednesday that he had regained consciousness, having had two operations to extract the bullets, and his breathing was stable and unassisted.

“He is fine,” lead surgeon Lee Cook-Jong said at a press conference in Suwon. “He is not going to die.”
