Now that the policy of raising the price until someone agrees has been brought to the public attention, can't people use it to their advantage? Next time it happens, everyone can just sit on it until it gets to $500k lol

This has been a very known policy for decades. I fly somewhat often and I see this done on probably 1/4 flights, which is why I find it so weird that United waited until AFTER boarding, which never happens. Also, stopping at $1k is nothing. I once saw a guy at BWI get a $3,000 voucher to wait for a flight 8 hours later to Miami.

Airlines can just stop overbooking their flights tbh. It's a really shitty thing to do.

I'd be willing to bet there will be a taker at 2k. I mean, unless I'm going to something super important I'd probably take it.

Seems like it could be exploited.

Example: Gather a group 25 fathers, each with a set of infant twins. Simultaneously book 75 tickets on a 70-seat flight. When they offer money to leave, everyone refuses until the price gets up to $100million, then split the profit 25 ways.

That's a very simple minded thought. They don't overbook to that level obviously. They use analytics to know what flights typically have people drop off and usually overbook by a standard amount. They prevent these situations usually.

When someone with authority requests you exit the airplane. You exit the airplane.

The example I used has 75 tickets booked on a 70 seat fight. 75 minus 70 is 5. 5 is between 1 and 7.

The guy had every right to protest being removed. He should take it to court and since the airline had no justification to get the police involved, he will get a settlement.

He did nothing wrong. Resisting the demands of police when he felt he was being wrong is 100% okay.

We are not talking about violence or a law being broke.

The airline fucked up and will pay for it.
