Still, there are plenty of schools in New York that cost less than the difference in tuition, so you're really not rewarded for making less.

Wait, are you trying to say that if you're poor and you get government money you can go to a top tier expensive school, but hey I've got an option of a shitty second rate college so just go there where it's cheaper? Again, how is that fair?

Just seems like a minor detail, just make it tiered such that you never get punished for making more, like how our current tax system works.

Or just give everyone an equal amount of government pell grants so all stays fair. Especially given what you said, the wealthy already get fucked on taxes. So you're going to not only tax the wealthy more, but then not let them in on the programs their tax dollars go to such as pell grants for their kids? The fuck?

So just give them a tax writeoff for tuition payed. Problem solved.

Idk why people consistently think that tax write offs are so valuable. You know that only gives you a fraction of the cost right? It's not like you couldn't give a tax write off to the poor too.

Basically it keeps you from being punished for making more money. If you get taxed 30% on your money, then lose out on getting extra money assistance for tuition, then you could be punished for making more. If we just give a tax writeoff for tuition paid, then set up a progressive tier, the problem is solved.

solution for parents is to figure out a way to defer incomes > $99,999 per year for the 4-5 5-6 years that the kiddies are in 'free' tuition college. it will save them more in the long-run.

foresee plenty of people bolting from NYC when they can't afford rents/find high enough paying jobs and telling the state to go fuck itself thanks for the degree

They have to stay for like 4 years post-degree actually. I agree with your thought of parents finding ways to defer incomes. That's what I would do.

how can they prove this? what if one guy moves to Newark but commutes to NYC? is that still 'in NYC' or what about the opposite, some gal lives in Brooklyn but commutes to another state like NJ or CT for work. What if someone moves to North Dakota but works remotely for a NYC-based startup? I'm sure there's plenty of devil in the details.
