I disagree. The parts that create the sum of "sex" exist objectively, but the sum of the parts is the social construct.

At birth-genitals, chromosomes, hormones and genes all objectively exist, but the designation of "male, female or intersex" is the social construct.

It is being designated and assigned though, and is the major plot line in the experience of transgender and intersex folks, who're assigned (often times) as either "being male or female".
