I assumed you were botting with it, that paladin was sitting dead in game like an hour after the kill. Did you afk out of town or something?

For me, someone that sells it to u, grab your fg, kills it before lending it to you, and not refunding is called a scammer

It wasn't a town pk though, guy was pvming somewhere, died and stayed in game for a long time after, so i assumed it was a bot that glitched or someone deciding to afk out of town.

In any case, you can check it an account is registered or not easily in game, type "/mail <accountname> test". Bnet will either say message sent (account=registered) or mail not sent (account=unreg)
