so I was taking out some relatives who arrived from overseas the other day and one 15 year old mentioned that he plays call of duty and that he and his friends shout "allah akbar" as they throw bombs at opponents - i thought that was funny ^_^

he then mentioned they also shout "kill all muslims!" at the opponents :mellow:

i then began to lecture him on the topic of racism saying how he can't go around saying that kind of stuff, i told him he probably has some muslim friends so he ought to know they're not all bad

he then told me yes he does have muslim friends and that they are the ones who taught him to say these things while he's playing call of duty

:huh:

i still haven't figure out how i feel about this

Kids who have lived cushy lives with no adversity have probably no reason to get offended by stereotypes, so it's not surprising his friends did that. The "allahu ackbar" terrorist stuff is just as foreign to them as it is to you.

The game that made me most aggressive was Mario kart. /e: actually mostly because I had to react to the opposition losing all the time ^^.

Still gamers are more likely to stigmatize, partially due to these type of games.
That would have been worse if they didn't have Muslim friends, playing games as well, making fun of the stereotypes.
