This is the RAM I have. Says it's 1866mhz and dual channel.

So my question is when I am in bios setting this up should I put 1866 as the speed and XMP on?

Or because it's dual channel only set it to 900mhz in the settings?

Nvm I figured out my problem.

I set my Ram to 1866Mhz and in speccy says its 934mhz so that seems to be right.

I was getting a bios settings boot problem and I thought it was my memory settings but its my CPU settings.

i5 3570k - 3.4 @ 1.185v

If I try to bring it up to 3.5 @ 1.2v I get the bios settings boot error. It makes me put it back to stock CPU settings.

Anyone have any idea as to why? I know its an old processor but it should still work. I used to OC this just fine before.

Things like this happen over time normally?

The ram speed is correct. You gotta double the number you see because it's DDR RAM. Mean double data rate, it has nothing to do with dual channel part.

What motherboard do you have?
Do you overclock on multipler or bclock?

My 4.8Ghz actually got unstable after I switched from 1600 to 2400mhz ram. Just had to bump the v core a bit and it was fine again.

And you ran 3 5ghz? You might as well stick to stock setting then with turbo frequency at 3.8

I have a gigabyte Z77-D3H

Not sure what multipler or bclock means.

When I say I OC I just opened up bios went to CPU speed and clicked it up from 3.4 to 4.0. Then changed the voltage from 1.185 to 1.2 or maybe a little more I forgot what I used to set it at.

I read the max OC settings for my CPU was 4.5 @ 1.45v. I never put it anywhere near that though just cause mine is only air cooled.

I ran this speed for awhile though when I was gaming a lot idk if that would be why I cant OC anymore or not.

How would I run at 3.4ghz and have turbo frequency at 3.8ghz?

Not sure how to do that or what that means exactly.

Right now in my system settings it says CPU @ 3.4Ghz 3.8Ghz

Does that mean turbo frequency is at 3.8Ghz already?

Yes that is stock
When you change your cpu something starts with 100mhz or x34?

I think I left those at automatic if I am not mistaken..

Are those two things that I should be adjusting if I am trying to OC?

You should not touch the 100mhz. Only the multipler.
Probably called cpu core ratio

Ahh yeah I just went back into bios to look. The 100mhz is on auto. The 34 is what I was changing.

I was more concerned with my Memory speed and timing. The OC'ing isnt a big issue was just kind of curious why I get boot up errors when trying to OC now even .1Ghz
