Ireland has deep catholic roots and laws against blasphemy were created by state and church a long time ago. They are a reminder that we should respect the laws of the county. Recently a vote was passed in The Netherlands to abolish penalties on blasphemy. I didn't know what happened to it. Some God bashing was in 10 years ago when you're a little rebellious atheist going through puberty, now it's just meh.
