Russia is still very powerful. More so now that it has a foot in the door in our White House.
A lot of people thought just because East Germany reunited with West Germany and the Soviet Union dissolved. That this would mean the Cold War was over. For the most part it was over but the same espionage shit continues and Russia and the US have not been "allies" or even on good terms in almost 100 years. The last time the US even remotely had good relations with Russia was when FDR was in office and he was able to diplomatically negotiate good faith with Stalin. Then FDR died and Truman decided not to honor what FDR had promised to Stalin which started a domino effect of distrust between the US and Soviet Union/Russia that has not yet faded.
