New around here. I didn't expect to see a section for vehicles, but while I wait for some trades to happen I thought I'd open up a debate.
I recently won a good bit of money and after paying off our debts I wanted to buy a new truck, either a 2015 or 2016.

I believe these are the top 3 brands in the industry right now and I would be happy getting either.
I come from a family of Mopar (Dodge) but my in-laws are Chevy people so I would have to say Dodge/Chevy are the heavy favorites.

So, with that being said, what truck do you guys recommend out of the 3 that I have listed?

Few questions-

What will the truck be used for?
How long do you plan on keeping it?

I will be using it as my every day vehicle, so going to work and back. Eventually to pull a 35-40ft camper.
I won't be hauling and pulling stuff often though just whenever I have projects going on at my house or to help my family.
I also hunt so it would be used for that as well (off-roading, room for 2-3x people's equipment).

I plan on keeping it for at least 5 years or until it's paid off.
I will probably put $10-15k down and I would want my payments under $400/month so whatever time-frame that entails.

throwing 15k down you can easily find a used 2500/F250 for under 400 a month with a diesel which would pull 10 times better and better resale

That's a good point. I could realistically get a 2500 truck. However, I think I would rather just get a 1500 for now, pay off the truck faster and have a lower monthly payment.

a 35-40 foot camper is going to be HEAVY on a half ton.

my 38 is over 14k on a 5th wheel and I have a 35 foot bumper pull that is 12k (both empty weights) that I wouldn't dare put behind a half ton truck.

get down in the 28ish range in a light class and you'd be much better off.

If you are hell bent on a 35+ buy a 3/4 or 1 ton and thank me later.

Also - as for which one just buy whatever you think looks nicer at this point. The new half tons are all good across the board. (coming from a diehard ram guy)

Thanks for the info on the camper pulls. Definitely something to consider moving forward. A 2500 would definitely be better here.
I would be fine with a 25-30 foot camper, but I know she'll want something the same size or bigger than her parents.

I feel the same way with all 3 companies. All of their trucks are sharp. I prefer Ram but I'm not a fan of their new standard 1500 rims (the old look).
Rims are actually one of the top things I look at when buying a vehicle. I don't necessarily need chrome or 25's, I actually just like 20 inch forged finish.
If they don't offer forged then I am fine with stock as long as they are 20's. I will most likely get a more aggressive/off road looking tire.
