Hey, I'm working on a new style of smudge. It's not nearly the greatest work, I know. But what do you guys think overall? I'm not using a tablet, unfortunately. I'm not sure what tablet I could get that would make it compatible. Any tips, critiques, etc, is welcome. Only way to get better! :)

Orignial:

Someone told me that the smudging removed the depth on the work and that I should have overlayed or had a cutout of the original over it to give it additional detail. Any other recommendations?

You have destroyed some of the initial flow of the piece.
As you see you dragged them both from the top left and you have removed the nice curve it had (dragging your eye to the center of the piece) and killed some of the initial depth. No fonts. Don't over sharpen OR selective sharpen the smudging.

Is your green arrow representing the flow the image had and the red represents the flow I changed it to?

Green was the blue bug like transparent wing, red was your edit and your flow. Also part where i believe you messed up depth.
