Some things look pretty good.

The House Ways and Means Committee just released their half of the Obamacare "repeal and replace" bill. They are in charge of the tax part. Here is a quick summary:

Nearly all Obamacare taxes repealed
Individual mandate and employer mandate retroactively repealed.
New tax credit to purchase health insurance.
The credit is age adjusted. You simply add up the people in your household to determine the credit size:

Children and those under age 30 get $2000
30 to 39 year olds get $2500
40 to 49 year olds get $3000
50 to 59 year olds get $3500
60 year olds to Medicare age get $4000

Those figures are indexed to inflation plus one percentage point. The maximum credit amount is $14,000. Only the oldest five people in a family count toward the calculation.
HSAs Greatly Expanded. The House bill greatly expands HSAs starting in 2018 in three ways. First, the contribution limit is nearly doubled from about $6500 today for a family to about $13,000 (these figures halved for singles). That means that HSAs will become a powerful new financial savings vehicle to rival 401(k)s and IRAs.

The bill would continue Obama's expansion of Medicaid to additional low-earning Americans until 2020. After that, states adding Medicaid recipients would no longer receive the additional federal funds the statute has provided

The legislation, meanwhile, would preserve protections for those with pre-existing conditions by prohibiting insurers from denying coverage or charging them more. It also would continue to allow young adults to stay on their parents’ plans up to age 26.

Some so good

"Cadillac plan" tax deferred until 2025

A tax on health care plans should never be an option.

So... eliminate a bunch of healthcare taxes, raise spending annually by roughly half a trillion dollars? Sounds like the modern Republicans to me. Fuck.

I'm conflicted on it as well. Its really not going to make a difference until 2020 anyways.

If you had to pay the tax penalty in 2016 you get your money back

Well whenever this gets put into place I'm gonna be one of those healthy youngish guys that hasn't been to a doctor in 20 years that bounce off the books because that shit kills me being self employed and having to cover myself

I've just been snagging the garbage plans with ridic deductibles to avoid the penalty and it's been quite a chunk for me the past few years

I'm not gonna lie, this plan would put 10 grand into my pocket a year. But it's bad for the country because it's not paid for. Would vote against it.

I think if they opened up competition across state lines you would start to see better plans become affordable to people such as yourself. I also like the idea of allowing people without employer health care to band together for the purpose of negotiating a health care plan.

I believe you have to have insurance in order to receive the tax credit.
