First and foremost: This thread is entirely for people who believe the things NASA have been reporting. If you post here to argue the existence of TRAPPIST-1 and/or its planets, to argue about the shape/movement of Earth or to argue about NASA's authenticity, you formally declare that you're alright with a moderator giving you an extra 10% warn.

With that said...

I want to discuss what the TRAPPIST-1 system's discovery means in your eyes. Considering the following assumptions, I think it's safe to say that it will have zero impact on any person currently alive, whatsoever:
- If life is found there, it will take a minimum of 80 years for us to send them a message and receive a message back.
- If we want to go there, it will probably take us decades to figure out how to do it, and then another couple of centuries to actually achieve it.
- It is still entirely possible that none of these planets will turn out to be habitable.

So, what do you think will happen?
- Do you think life will be found, and how will humanity react to that?
- Do you think significant amounts of CO2 will be found, and how will humanity react to that?
- Do you think mankind will ever succeed in sending a probe there?
- What should we start looking for next?
- etc

3 or 4 in the middle of the 7 are good candidates
- powerfull telescopes not yet implemented (10 years) will be able to detect life on the surface
- even if 'life' is detected it would take years and checks, different methods, a surface picture would do it for masses
- need to wait a bit (10 months) to know if their orbit is synchronous or not (synchronous = harder environnement)
- life discovery is impacting more christian religion than muslim one ... (Allah created 7 skies and as much earths, yep...)

- investissors may put a very little bit of money, just for the show/self promotion
- rich donators may give a significant amount to research
- governements would probably increase (alot) their space program and research
- human hibernation is maybe a key and a way to reach orbit using less fuel : "space cannon"....

nb: it may have an impact for sure for those currently alive, but not that much.

Its impossible to say anything about it. First of all, even tho there are planets in the so called habitable zone, that alone doesent make it a big chance that there would be life. Even if there would be life, it is highly unlikely that it would be anywhere as intelligent as humans, and more likely it would resemble bacteria. If there is some highly evolved civilization, they are most likely aware of us, and who knows, maybe they could get here in a split second due to bending space, creating wormholes or something like that.

Just too much speculation. We should just observe it more now and see if we can figure out the place better. Hopefully there will be some planet where we could live. It could be a good place humans to colonise, that is ofc unless we find a way to terraform mars to be habitable before we figure out a reasonable way to get there.

i feel the confirmation of life outside earth at this point would only surprise super closeminded people cause the inteligent ones know its a reality.

there is still chance to find atleast microbial life in our solar system on europa and so forth.

if you wish for something more exciting like possible highly advanced inteligent life possibilities, then the hunt for dyson spheres can be fun.

Not even remotely interested in it tbh. We don't know about atmosphere composition, temperatures, magnetic field, tidally locked.. etc. far too much unknown for me to get interested or excited
