Man I'm digging around on head-fi and these people make the SHP9500 sound like a gift from God at their price point.

You already have the right answer...the a700x is probably one of the top headphones for comfort, just add a mic to it, either a really nice desktop mic or a clip on.....going to cost you less than a headset, you are going to get better audio output from the headphones you have, and better input from a solid desk mic

I want to be able to use voice activation and the desktops mics are too sensitive with a mech...

not at all.
I use an arm and have no shock mount and my mic does not pick it up unless i talk.
even when it sat on my desk it didn't pick up my mech.

Just get a decent mic.
