Hanabi and the teacher are similar in ways, which this episode pointed out.
if anything Hanabi would continue to make use of Mugi, maybe even against the teacher to knock her down in some way.

so he was close with her family and they spent a good amount of time together when she was younger till now. (which was explained in a previous ep)

she just calls him brother because anime.
(he filled out that role and it's pretty common among younger girls in anime to call older males who are close in some way Onii-chan)
