I say always have a good relationship with your parents, after all they're going to be dead soon.

Your second point is also salient. The spiritualized consciousness sees even the unsavory events of life as pure aspects of God. I was always a fan of the Aurelius quote, "Remembering that the whole world class has to exist will make you more tolerant of its members."
