It would take over 20 faithless electors but if protestors campaign in that direction they might swing them. Given the dissatisfaction with this particular president elect I wouldn't put it out of the realms of possibility. Unlikely but not impossible. I fully expect there to at least be a few faithless electors.

Faithless electors are incredibly rare, and have never influenced an election.
The idea is nice, but I highly doubt it will happen.

It's not rigged if it is within the rules of the system.
Is it a flawed system? of course.

Bernie can still win, they all just have to write Bernard Sanders in.

Trump has the names and address of every elector and told his supporters to take action if necessary. Your scenario isn't going to happen. Can't wait for the US to make gay marriage illegal in your country :)

i consider that electors are not bound to the vote to be a loophole rather than a rule. but that begs the question of why an elector exists at all.

either way some rules are immoral, this IMO is one.

Chances are congress would still hand over power to Trump given that it is majority republican but it would be fun to see some electors throw their toys out of the pram. It's also not about what happens immediately but what it could lead to. If electors are seen to deny Trump's fitness for the presidency it will increase anti-Trump sentiment and embolden it. The more officials come out against Trump even though he's now been elected, the more likely it is that some catastrophic protest action (such as riot, revolution, secession or assassination) could take place.

If the electors didn't exist and we were thus in a popular vote system
Clinton would have won
I wouldn't see it as immoral. I would see it as against the system that you just questioned.

Okay, and Trump supporters could you know, assassinate them, lock and load their guns and hop in their pickup trucks in a convoy to washington and overthrow the government in a coup and hang their bodies from the barrels of tanks.
Personally, I prefer the democratic system
