Further, as one of the more prolific liberal posters on this forum from 2010 - 2013, I see a direct connection between the types of bigotry and bullshit I encountered daily on this forum during that time and what has happened with the shit stain on American history that is Trump and the last year.
There were threads where I was the only person to call out plasmasnake's racist bullshit. I was the only person to repeatedly hound Thundercock over his signature. There were numerous threads where my use of statistics and polls were simply disregarded because they didn't correlate to the incubated realities of the conservative posters.
Well, guess what? That's how this whole descent began. I used to correct the idiots who compared Bush to Hitler and tell them why they were mistaken; I never saw that going on with the other side of the aisle. Demagoguery and nihilism are not just opposed to one ideology, though it may appear that way when you encounter it and it works to your immediate political benefit. Demagoguery and nihilism are just opposed to ideology, period. Conservatives and libertarians rode the tiger and then let it roam free.
Obviously there is more to this debacle, but this angle is so stark to me and I doubt any of you considered it. I believe I used to have a quote in my signature that read something like, "You can never reason with an absolutist." Fitting.
