same my gym has thick, stiff bars (like my deeyick) and at first I was not used to it at all, for deads, squats, bench.. anything. I'm used to it now so a less thick bar actually feels weird. I had to start using reverse grip on lighter weight tho or use wraps w/ the thicker bar. holding it that high up in my palms, especially without chalk (I got sweaty hands) just fucked my shit up double overhand, forget hook grip
