pretty common misconception when people try to mimic pro play

Here, that is what you need to fix, that idea is wrong.

As an adc during the laning phase you need to be in control.

Even if you're not playing it in an actively agresive way ( many factors can get you to play the lane in a passive way ) you can still be in control of the lane playing it pasively.

- Keeping track of the jungler. ( Where is he starting ? Where did we see him for the last time ? where is he going ? is my jungler close for a counter gank, if so, can we bait the enemy jungler?

- Wave management. ( Last hitting properly, pushing when you have to and freezing will help you to farm without overextending)

- Not losing the trades, not getting punished.

- Know your champion, know your support, Know your enemy. ( Should i be playing agresive vs that enemy bot lane ? Can i win the trades ? )

Defending and justifying your mistakes is what will keep you from progressing. Learn to listen and take advice, that will make all the difference.
