forget about racism, poverty and other minor problems i'd say the biggest problem preventing black folks from making any progress is the fact that 70+% of children are born to single parent households

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2013/jul/29/don-lemon/cnns-don-lemon-says-more-72-percent-african-americ/

Lemon said that "more than 72 percent of children in the African-American community are born out of wedlock." Federal data confirms that 73 percent of African-American births in 2010 were out of wedlock. Estimates for the percentage of African-American children growing up in single-parent households are slightly lower, at 67 percent. Finally, black children counted in these statistics may have contact outside the household with their biological father. But Lemon's statistic was accurate, and we rate his statement True.

how did this come about in the first place? who told these women that they can be a strong independent black women who don't need no man to raise a child?

deadbeat dads who have no job and never come home are certainly a problem but the women ultimately hold the key to whether or not they have children and they choose to raise children with no father around - this is the biggest problem facing the black community today

naturally those kids that grow up in fatherless homes turn out to be thugs becoming another crime statistic or worse, they become part of the black lives matter movement

I find it natural to expect a population who have been prevented from making family ties to later have trouble making family ties.

It's something that needs attention, like a heroin epidemic, but its logical to expect it to exist IMO.

According to a 2010 study, 72 percent of black children are born to unwed mothers, a sharp contrast to the 24 percent detailed in the Moynihan Report.

doesn't answer the question of how you go from 24% children born to single mothers to 70%

are you implying living standards were better for black folks in the 60's?

i think its partially an existing problem that exacerbated by the culture.

Anyone who disagrees can explain to me how "sidechicks" play into a culture that inherently respects monogamy.

Everyone got married more in the 60s and it was cheaper to do so, there's the key question in your thread explained.

My post was meant to show the actual biggest problem in the black community
