I don't think any religion is a "religion of peace." Seems most religious texts if read literally promote violence but I don't think it is inherently violent, which is what you're really asking. It's just as possible for Christian terrorists to go stone gays as it is for Muslims to throw them off cliffs, the only difference is Christianity has smoothed out some more of the wrinkles over time compared to the relatively young Islam.
