Democratization just fell off a cliff in Turkey, it isn't coming back. The conservatives in Iran have been tightening control for the past year. The progress we hoped for has not materialized.

Meanwhile, politics in the developed world has gone hysterical. Technological capitalism is creating social unrest and there is no ideology to fix it.

There is just no place for it in the public life in the modern world.

just saw you repeat that statement
and yes it is true but what to do in the next few decades?
many of the states in the developing world (not only in the arab/islamic region) are not ready for democracy and western intervention is not helpful but rather harmful
all the western interference has done is throw back the (education of the) population in many countries and better education is what is needed for progress towards democracy

Yep it's about what NOT to do, like proceeding embargo / isolating them, I think it's possible internet access change things faster that previous decades.
