I just did a rewatch of season 1, and there is something that is bugging me.
First I'll explain how the story is told to us viewers from Elliot's veiwpoint:
1. The scenes of Elliot (his main self) throughout season 1 are what Elliot himself is experiencing. What we see is what Elliot himself can remember doing.
In the beginning of season 2 I get the sense that Elliot is no longer telling full story, or intentionally leaving something out because he no longer fully trusts us (his imaginery friend) for not telling him about Mr Robot.
2. The scenes were Elliot's alter ego (Mr. Robot) is fully in control of we never get to see. These are the blackouts where Elliot can't remember what is happening.
There are (unless I'm mistaken) 2 exceptions to this, where we see Mr Robot fully in control:
-Mr Robot's conversion with Tyrell Wellick in the car
-Mr Robot (shown as Elliot in this scene, not Christian Slater) unleashing the hack together with Tyrell Wellick in S02E01.
The reason I'm saying Mr Robot was in control here, is because in the S01 finale Elliot himself can't remember unleashing the hack, and he would have if he was in control and not Mr Robot.
The thing that is bothering me is exactly this. We only get to see Elliot when Mr Robot has taken over through the eyes of Tyrell Wellick.
I don't think we get to see what Mr Robot is up to because he does not trust us like Elliot does (or at least that's a convenient and acceptable way to explain why we don't see it, and thus making better television, creating suspense and better plot).
The reason I wrote we see Mr Robot "through the eyes of Tyrell" is because that is the only way I can think of showing Mr Robot when Elliot is "asleep" that keeps the integrity of the series intact.
Does this hold a special meaning, or is it just happenstance?
I mean we obviously see the viewpoints of other characters when Elliot isn't around, but we never saw Mr Robot through the viewpoint of some other character than Tyrell.
Am I mistake that Mr Robot was the one in control at the start of S02E01, even though he was shown as Elliot.
If so, that creates continuity problems from Elliot not remembering starting the hack.
On another point I also believe Tyrell convinced Mr Robot to swap out the malware (or modify it) that Darlene wrote with a malware that encrypted Ecorp's data but didn't delete the key afterwards.
I think Tyrell has the encyption key.
There's also something with Joanna Wellick that I can't place. I'm hoping to get bamboozled by these last episodes of season 2, and expect to be wrong on so many theories that I have.
